Josh Howard Hurt Again

So, in addition to his off court issues, Josh Howard is now gaining a reputation as an injury prone player. I don't think the Mavericks can get much if they wanted to trade him at this point. His attitude and his health would be major concerns for any possible suitor. It looks like Mark Cuban will have to ride out his contract now.

On another note, the loss to the Sacramento Kings outlines the need for a third option on this team. There are rumors that we're talking with the Charlotte Bobcats about a trade for Raymond Felton and Nazr Mohammed for at least DeSagana Diop. Sounds like another attempt to make up for the Devin Harris debacle.

LT Doubtful Sunday

So, LT is still dealing with injury issues. Once again, it's going to affect a playoff game. Maybe. It seemed like LT was getting back on track to his MVP ways, but it was Darren Sproles who stepped up last week to defeat the Colts. Why is LT so injury prone these days? Is he done? Or is he trying to rush back too soon, leaving himself open to more injuries or reinjury?

Either way, I think the Chargers are regretting the release of Michael Turner. Imagine a backfield with LT, Turner and Sproles. I think the Chargers could have afforded to wait for LT to get back to 100% with that backfield. If LT is rushing back?

Cowboys Cut Pacman Jones

So, Jerry Jones lets one of his experiments go. On the surface, it seems like it's the right move with the proper motives. Pacman is charged with hiring someone to kill another person. Well, there he goes again. But. The charge is from 2007!! Why is this coming up now? Did Jerry need a good reason to let Pacman go?

From a football prospective, I hate it. I want the much talked about move of Henry to safety. He's simply too slow as a corner. As a safety, he can return to a high level of play. Shifting Henry over and losing Pacman means the Cowboys have Newman, Scandrick and Jenkins left at corner. If and when Newman goes down, you only have Scandrick and Jenkins at corner. Granted I loved what Scandrick did last year, but is he really ready to cover some of the more elite wide receivers out there. Do you trust Scandrick or Jenkins to cover Randy Moss?

Denver Broncos Interview Jason Garrett

Personally, I'd like to see Garrett go. He hasn't developed as an offensive coordinator like I thought he would. He doesn't make proper adjustments within a game and between games quite honestly. If Denver does end up hiring Garrett, it does change what Jerry Jones was planning on doing. He'll lose his offensive coordinator and expedite the hiring of Mike Shanahan.

Of course, this will push Wade out of the door, since it's been reported Wade Phillips will not coexist with Shanahan. Which means a new defensive coordinator would be most likely the next step. Since we're heavily invested in the 3-4 defense, the list of candidates is short. This list includes:

Mike Nolan - recently fired as head coach of the 49ers but has extensive experience as a 3-4 coach.
Pepper Johnson - Linebacker Coach, NE Patriots - has spent 9 years under Bill Belicheck and his 3-4 defense
Romeo Crennel - recently fired as head coach of the Browns but spent some time with Bill Belicheck's defense and succeeded.

Those three would be my choices. Well, that's a little lie. I would love to steal away Dick LeBeau from the Steelers but that would mean he would be the head coach under current NFL rules. And I don't want him as my head coach.

Patriots To Franchise Matt Cassel

Avoiding a quarterback void, the Patriots plan to place the franchise tag on Matt Cassel. With Brady's recovery unknown, this guarantees the Patriots an insurance policy if Brady isn't ready to go.

Empty Bowl

Well, the Longhorns won last night on a last minute drive. Colt McCoy proved he is a clutch player once again. And he should be a leading contender in the Heisman race next year. But it didn't mean anything this year. It wasn't enough. It pisses me off that my team won, again, and I'm not happy. My team won it's last game in a thrilling game and not only does it not matter. It might have dropped them from the No. 2 spot. USC and Utah made strong cases for themselves to be ranked above Texas by outclassing Penn State and Alabama respectively.

You might call me a spoiled Texas fan. But why shouldn't I want to strive for a National Championship. Isn't that what sports is all about? It's not winning bowl games. It shouldn't be about margin of victory. It should be about winning. Period. If last night's game was a playoff game. How happy is Texas nation right now? Advancing to a semi final round. Depending on the number of teams in the field, obviously. But instead, I don't even care. Wopty do. We beat Ohio State. And we're probably staying at No.3 or dropping lower. Excellent.

I know some of you are getting tired of the ranting and the pissing about a playoff system. I'm preaching to the choir for the most part. I just don't understand why you are still watching.

Texas vs Ohio State

I'm still not watching tonight's Fiesta Bowl but it might gain the Longhorns an AP National Championship. I doubt it though. Even if the Longhorns destroy the Buckeyes, I think it'll convince more people that the Big Ten has fallen even further than originally thought. Therefore, it won't convince enough of the AP that the Longhorns are the best team in the nation. Even if Oklahoma wins.

Who knows? Do I really want to win a championship that way anyway? Well, sure it'll help but isn't it a little stupid to win a championship that way. Waiting for someone else's game to finish and hoping and praying it's enough in someone's objective eyes that you're good enough. Good lord college football needs a playoff system. This is way too political. Well, Texas gained 2 points in the poll tonight. Are you kidding me? Although, it does give me something to blog about.

Bowl Game Blackout

My plan for the new year is to boycott ALL bowl games. What Pete Carroll said was ridiculous. USC wouldn't blow out Florida or Oklahoma but they could beat either one of them. And another note for Carroll. Don't claim your team couldn't be beat this year when you already lost. You just sound like an idiot when you start spouting statements like that. Especially when that loss is to the Oregon State Beavers!!

Anyway, back to the point, if we as fans start making a statement to college football and to the corporate sponsors that this system isn't working for us anymore. Maybe they'll start thinking about changing.
